PET-A-PALOOZA: Where All the Cool Dogs Go

UsedVictoria.com is thrilled to once again be a part of J.L.A Society’s PET-A-PALOOZA for their second annual weekend event happening August 10th and 11th at Ogden Point.

Last year, we saw thousands of pet lovers come out to this free super fun event that showcases everything you can think of regarding your furry four legged friends.

As it is their second year, the buzz around town is that this fun filled weekend will have even more cool stuff than last year…if this is even possible! So we decided to sit down with the organizers Lonnie, Jordan and Anne Lee to find out all the amazing things going on this year and what you should expect if it’s your first time attending.

In a nut shell, what is PET-A-PALOOZA all about?

PET-A-PALOOZA is the largest West Coast outdoor pet festival. It is also the only free pet festival that is pet friendly, so make sure to bring your dogs to enjoy the day. It’s a wonderful introduction of the who`s who in the local pet community and a great day of fundraising for multiple non-profits on the Vancouver Island. Last year’s event brought over 8,000 spectators for the one day event, and we promise this year will be bigger and better than last.

What kinds of fun and new events should Victoria’s pet lovers expect to see this year?

This year we have based the show around incredible attractions such as Dock Dogs, the amazing dock jumping competition/exhibition that Victoria will never forget.

Okay, so it’s my first time coming to PET-A-PALOOZA; which events should I make sure not to miss?

Of course make sure to check out Dock Dogs! Some of the other amazing attractions not to miss are the Running of the Bulls, photography lounges with your pets, Victoria`s largest adopt-a-thon, clip for a cause, agility demos, and over 70 exhibitors. (And you should definitely come and say hi to Carly and grab some swag at the UsedVictoria.com booth, we have a pool! – Ed)

How did the J.L.A. Society get started and what is your mission?

In March of 2012, the three of us got together and formed an animal advocacy group called, J.L.A Society, aka Just Love Animals Society. Our mission is to bring awareness and educate on various animal welfare issues via social media outlets and large fundraising events.

Any other info we should know if we’re planning to go this weekend?

Make sure to bring your dogs to sample treats, clothes, accessories, food and receive TONS of FREE giveaways. As well, don’t worry about the heat for your four-legged best friends, there will be multiple cool down stations throughout the festival.

UsedVictoria.com has a cool down pool in their “Doggie Oasis,” so make sure you stop by, say hello and take a break from the sun. We will also be showcasing artwork from local media artist Diana Durrand as well as offering free photos with your dogs from John Welch Phodography. And if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be holding a giveaway for a fabulous dog prize pack . You may even walk away with a limited edition UsedVictoria.com doggie bag dispenser when you sign up for our UsedNews eNewsletter.  Hope to see you there!
