UsedCrew Around Town: October 2018

As fall colours, sweater-weather, and warm drinks roll in to season, the UsedCrew is busy supporting a ton of amazing local events! Here’s what there is on-the-go for the month of October:

Frankenstein, Ballet Victoria – October 26 – 28, 2018

Ballet Victoria is reaching way back for inspiration for Frankenstein, 200 years back, to when the original gothic novel by Mary Shelley was first published. The twist is that Frankenstein will also showcase the second act of the classical ballet Giselle. This new creation blends two masterpieces with romantic flair and gothic intrigue to bring to life an unusual and intriguing ballet.

Dr. Frankenstein’s creature, who never got his bride, and Giselle, who never got her groom, are united in a new tale where their woes are healed by true love. With a hint of gore and humour, the story follows the creature’s dramatic destiny, falling for the dead bride whose heart was used to give him life.

Ballet Victoria’s Frankenstein will be performed at the McPherson Playhouse from October 26-28. Tickets are on sale now at www.balletvictoria.ca, at the Royal & McPherson box office, or by phone: 250-386-6121.

Rocky Horror Picture Show – October 17 – 28, 2018

Atomic Vaudeville was thrilled to be the production house behind Victoria’s 2016 production of The Rocky Horror Show – having taken the reigns from RKO Productions. A cult favourite, this show has a level of audience participation and energy that you don’t often see in live theatre. We brought it back again in 2017 to an incredible reception, having built upon the foundation of previous years, to make a production that continues to evolve and grow in ways that could be surprising for a musical that’s decades old.

Ultimately a show about acceptance, sexuality, and humanity mixed with Sci-Fi B-Movie tropes and heart stopping musical numbers, this show is a perfect fit for the spectacle that Atomic Vaudeville is known for.
