Old Whaling Ship Ice Mallet (for breaking ice build up off ship's rigging)

A Whaling Ship Ice Mallet which comes from the last Whaling Ship broken up by Capital Iron. This mallet was used for breaking ice the ice build up on the ship's rigging.
Head is 3 1/4" diameter x 13"

"Between 1934 and 1971, Victoria's Capital Iron dismantled nearly 100 ships for scrap at its Store Street waterfront location. Using a specialized technique, they filled the bow of a ship with water to raise its stern, systematically cutting sections of the hull off and pulling them ashore.
Capital Iron, which began in the scrap-metal business reflected in its name. Capital Iron's original building, at 1900 Store St., predates B.C.'s 1871 entry into Confederation, going back to 1863, when it was built as a warehouse, part of a dock and sales area."
