Using Used: Our Map Feature

Here at Used.ca we like to make sure that your user experience is the best it can possibly be. We are constantly updating and improving our site so that you, the user, can easily buy, sell and trade on your local Used site. Find your local Used site here.

That said, let me share with you a new feature recently integrated into our site. We are pretty excited about it!

Find Items by Location

Now when you search for a specific item on your local Used site, you can see the results by location.

To begin, just enter the name of the item you are looking for into our search bar on the right hand side of your screen. You can search within specific categories or from the homepage which will search the entire site. See below, I have searched for a bookshelf using our search function.

Use Our Search Function to Find Exactly What You’re Looking For

Once the results appear, look again to the right hand side of your screen and you will see the tool bar just as I have below.

To Search By Location, Use Our New Maps Tool

Simply select the View Ads on a Map option to see a map highlighting the location of each listing. See below for an example of what this map will look like

This Map Shows the Location of the Bookshelves I Have Searched For

Then simply click on one of the pins to reveal the details of this listing. See below for an example of what this will look like.

Click the Pins to Display the Listing Details.

Using the maps feature can refine how you buy and sell.  You can now rule out items that are off your bus route or too far away to make travel time and gas money worthwhile.

It also cuts out a bulk of correspondence with potential buyers and sellers around location and potential pick up times.

Here are a few other recommended blog posts which focus on tips and handy hints for using your local Used.ca site:

Enjoy using our map feature and let us know what else you’d like to see on the Used.ca family of sites. These are community focused sites and we appreciate your feedback.

When first saw this feature I thought it was cool, but very quickly dismissed it as I didn’t see an immediate use for my purposes. Then after reading your post I realized that this feature would be great for garage sale planning.

My typical process is to copy all the addresses and paste them into Google Maps and then plot a course. I can now use this built in feature to quickly see where the large clusters of sales are and what areas I can focus on for maximum garage sale power.

This is exactly what the maps feature is for. I’m pretty stoked you will now use it for garage sales, great idea!
